Celebrate national pollinator week Jun. 15-21 2015

This week, is national pollinator week. Bees are very important. This is because they pollinate flowers so they can produce fruit that we can eat. Celebrate this by planting flowers, or going to events at the natural history museum in the Q?rius section. On June 6th I did a post about these important bees. You can view this post and the links from it right  here! Q?rius blog

TESLA HOME BATTERY

Image
Tesla Power-wall Ah yes, the Tesla. Beautiful car. So, the Tesla powerwall is this device that mounts on the wall, and it charges itself with solar power.  The power-wall can charge your home. During the day, it charges up during sunny hours. In the evening, rather than buying electricity from the nearby power grid, the power-wall can power your house. Also during power outages, the power-wall acts as a generator. It comes in 10 k/wh & 7 k/wh. For more information , click on the link.

Tesla plans to build a gigafactory!

Image
A few months ago, Tesla released plans to build a Giga Factory, finishing construction in 2017, and reaching full capacity in 2020  Here is a drawing: As you see, this factory will produce 500,000 Tesla car batteries annually. Find out more here! Note: This pdf is old, the final site is in the Nevada desert. You can also see a drone flyover of the sites construction taped on May 17 here! UPDATE: CEO of Tesla Elon Musk announced to call Gigafactory, Gigafactory 1. This was after unveiling 800 million in orders of the Powerwall and Powerpack (see future posts). Musk estimated that Gigafactory 1 will not be enough to supply demand. He also hopes that other companies build their own "Gigafactories" The next Gigafactory (if it is overseas) will probably be in Japan. This is because Japan is the second most country that buys Tesla products (the US is number one)

TTBC (top ten best cars)

TOP 10 greenest Cars  BMW i3. You may have seen my other post on the i3. It gets 81 MPER (Miles per electric range) Volkswagen E-golf. Gets 83 MPER, but is not as fast as the i3.  Nissan Leaf. 84 MPER, but goes slower than the first two cars. Toyota Prius. Extremely popular, gets 50 combined MPG, has a lot of blind spots. Honda Accord hybrid. Gets 47 combined MPG. The normal accord is popular, but the hybrid? not so much. Tesla Model S. Gets 208-270 MPER. I think this one should be at the very top. It not only has a higher MPER, but it also goes fast. Chevrolet Volt. 40 MPG on gas, 380 on electric range. Toyota Camry hybrid. 41 combined MPG. Ford C-max hybrid. 40 combined MPG Volkswagen Jetta TDI. 36 combined MPG. After this post there will be one more during the schoolyear, and then your green tech updates will continue through the summer, but will not come on as often. source: Top ten best green cars
