Light pollution

Image
Light pollution video Light pollution is becoming an issue. We spend 110 billion dollars each year on wasted light. Enough to power 8 million homes. This is 50 million tons and growing by 3-5% annually. We  could reverse this trend in a decade if we get it right.  Many study's have shown that this bright light affects animals and humans. Millions of birds die each year, by flying into buildings. Newly hatched sea turtles crawl toward electric lights along the beach because the think the shimmer of the lights are the ocean. Finally, many have not seen the milky way galaxy, in the picture below. The milky way

Proterra Buses!

Image
Proterra is doing what Tesla is doing to cars. They made an electric bus, and the CEO used to work for Elon Musk. They made a bus with a battery pack that carry's 257 kWh. It can go up to 300 miles on a single charge. If it can do that, it could probably do half a days worth of transportation. This is a quote from the article I found on Treehugger. “The purpose-driven Catalyst design affords the best efficiency rating ever for a 40-foot transit bus, at 22 MPG equivalent,” said John Sleconich, Chief Engineer at Proterra. “Proterra buses are the only mass transit vehicle built from the ground up as an electric vehicle. With a unique aerodynamic body made from carbon fiber and advanced composite materials, we are able to reduce mass for maximum efficiency.” One of their buses drove 258 miles on a single charge. That was the Proterra 40-foot Catalyst XR with 8 NMC Li-ion. It had a 257 kWh battery. Collectively, Proterra costumers have prevented more than 4.7 million pounds of e

Weekly endangered species report

On No! Bees Are Endangered Because of Habitat Alteration ! By: Kaden Chien The IUCN has recently discovered a new Species of Bees called Bombus Fraternus. The Bombus Fraternus is a North American bee that is Endangered because of Habitat Alteration. This may be due to human activity such as Cutting down Trees or pollution. This species may go extinct in 80-90 years if this activity keeps up. Efforts to help with this species is going up. But what is strange is that where there are larger efforts, the population in those states are decreasing more than other states! The studies show that the c urrent range size relative to historic range: 71.38% and the  Persistence in current range relative to historic occupancy: 43.33% also, the c urrent relative abundance relative to historic values: 14.40% and lastly, the a verage decline: 56.96%.  If you want an image of a Bombus Fraternus you will see one down there: Now you will find the scientific classification of the Bombus Frat

U.S. Pollution

Image
U.S. Pollution By: Nathan Shan In mid 2015, the U.S.'s regular pollution index was 33.34 and it's exp pollution index was 58.29.  If you don't know what a regular pollution index or an exp pollution index is (I didn't either), take a moment and google it!  The U.S.'s rank was 85 out of 103 countries for the regular pollution index and 82 out of 103 for the exp pollution index (rank 1 is most polluted and rank 103 is least polluted). That's actually pretty good, and we can make it even better! Help conserve the environment and stop pollution by recycling, using green things (i.e. solar panels and roof gardens), saving water, using less electricity, etc. The highest ranking country was Ghana, first in both the regular pollution index and the exp pollution index. It's regular pollution index was 100.01 and it's exp pollution index was 181.14! This surprised me, since Ghana is a small country and it does not have a lot of people. The lowest ranking

TESLA MODEL X!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Image
Recently, the Tesla model X came out, and by recently, I mean yesterday! Elon Musk said this stuff on twitter . With a whopping price of 130,000 and more it is very costly, but, the  car is great. The Tesla model X is a family friendly,  and and safe car. It seats 7, with 2 fold-able seats in the third row. The signature series, includes a 90 kWh battery pack, autopilot and self driving functions, and third row seats. for 10,000 more dollars, ludicrous mode will be added to the X, making it go from 0-60 in 3.2 seconds!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, for 1,000 more dollars, there is the subzero weather package, including heated steering wheel, seat heaters, heated washer fluid, and wiper defrosters. Also, for 750 more dollars, the car will be able to heave 5000 lbs. The falcon wing doors that the X has have sensors to keep them from slamming into walls, so it will stop at a certain point. I used Business Insider, and you can read the article here. Check out Tesla's page while you're at

PEOPLE LOVE TESLA!!!!!!!!!!!!

Image
Recently, consumer reports did a test. The Tesla had a perfect score of 100,  concluding that the Tesla model S P85D was the best car they have ever tested. Although, originally, the Tesla scored a 103! The Tesla set a new top in the rating system. The new Tesla model S, with "Ludicrous Speed" goes from 0-60 MPH in 2.8 seconds. Also, Tesla P85D had 100 good consumer reviews. The cost for the P85D, $127,000. So in the end, we can conclude that Tesla is great, but it is costly.
