The world is getting worse, I can't say no to that. Humans are dirtying the air, water, night sky, and our ears. It will only get worse. As humans pollute the air with more and more carbon dioxide, greenhouse gasses force the suns to heat in, heating up the earth more, and more.

The Greenhouse Effect

The greenhouse effect is a pretty simple effect which helps keep our planet warm. I once read somewhere that without it, the Earth would be about 0 degrees (worldwide the Earth is about 61 degrees)
(See a simple video here)

Why does it affect us?

Greenhouse gasses cause the earth temperature to go up. According to recent numbers, 670 million people are at risk of their homes being flooded by 2100 (worldwatch.org). Not only that, but climate change will cause a rise in temperature. A rise in temperature could lead to heat stroke and people not having enough water in their bodies.

Climate Change and Animals

Climate change isn't just affecting us, it also affects every animal. Every animal requires:
  1. The right temperatures
    1. Climate change is getting rid of ice caps in the arctic, reducing the polar bear eating land.
    2. Warmer water temperatures will cause coral bleaching (which has already started to happen) and a decline in coral reefs.
  2. Freshwater
    1. Larger floods will decrease how good the water is for animals to live in.
  3. Food sources
    1. Climate change has change food for species which move with the seasons, such as the tundra swan (that will be a later post). Birds which fly to a different place during the winter & summer may arrive to find that their food source already had it´s best, or finding that it isn´t available yet.
  4. Places to raise their young
    1. Many birds raise their babies in the arctic. According to the Audubon Society, birds will lose much of their nesting grounds.

What can we do to help?

To me, climate change contains many problems, there are many things to do to combat it, from building renewable energy to planting trees. If you want a great site to find out how to reduce your carbon footprint, I suggest this one.

Minor Roadblocks

Many people deny climate change in public because their companies would have to take steps to help the environment, which is expensive. Donald Trump denies it (but I believe he actually knows, he just won't admit it). 97% of scientists believe climate change is real. Surprisingly, the oil company Exxon Mobil has said that climate change is real. Sure, they say it and used to run a commercial on it, but they haven´t changed their entire company (towards renewable energy instead of oil) yet.

Please let me know if you have any questions on this issue, we will highlight some questions in a post and answer them in the future. I will respond to all of them, so write as many as you want.
This graph, based on the comparison of atmospheric samples contained in ice cores and more recent direct measurements, provides evidence that atmospheric CO2 has increased since the Industrial Revolution. (Source: [[LINK||http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/paleo/icecore/||NOAA]])
The carbon dioxide warming rate has never been this big 😢
