Ocean Acidification

First Of All, what is Ocean Acidification? Ocean Acidification is when the water absorbs the CO2 that is released into the air. The water absorbs the CO2 in the air because of hydrogen ions in the water. When the CO2 gets absorbed into the water the water becomes more acidic, which makes it difficult for coral reefs and sea shells to build. The ocean will probably be dead if we don't do anything about it now. Here are a couple of stories relate to Ocean Acidification.

Stanford researchers released a VR software in October, which 'teleports' the user to the future, and you are able to fully explore the ocean, seeing how the ocean will (possibly) become with what's currently happening. The software allowed the player to also see the Carbon emissions coming from the car, and it allows the user to follow it all the way to the ocean. When you get to the water you're able to move coral and see how the acidic waters affect the coral. The timeline of the software is based on a Stanford study posted in August, so some aspects may be outdated.

The Center for Biological Diversity filed a lawsuit against the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for failing to set appropriate standards to protect the waters of the US. Over the last 200 years, the ocean has become 30% more acidic, which is an amazing change. Ocean Acidification is a national issue, and probably the only way to fix it is by fixing carbon emissions, and by finding a renewable energy source, but the Center for Biological Diversity believes that if the EPA tightens their criteria, we could make progress. The EPA (as of the time written) hasn't responded to the lawsuit, and has ignored the Center for the Biological Diversity temporarily, so hopefully by the time this is out the argument would be settled.
