Light Pollution General Info

 At night when you look up at the sky, all you see are some clouds, and the moon. But did you know that when you are out in the middle-of-nowhere, the night sky is actually quite beautiful? One of the reasons you don't see any stars anymore actually has to do with light bulbs over powering the light of the stars. Besides the sun, the closest star is 25,260,733,353,600 miles away! Even though it is so close (compared to other stars), it is so dim.  

Effects of Light Pollution

Light pollution only block out the stars, it does much more. Here are some adverse effects of light pollution (according to globeatnight.org):
  1. Light pollution can disrupt ecosystems (web, globe at night).
Light pollution can change a birds migratory "map" so the bird flies in the wrong direction (web). It can also change predator-prey reactions between species (web), and can alter interactions between animals.
      2. Can have adverse effects on the human body (web, globe at night)
Light can disrupt the production of melatonin, a hormone which makes us tired and energized. Excess light while we sleep can lead to headaches, fatigue, and stress (web)

How to help

Light pollution is one of those issues which you can't really help with in a big way. However, there are a few things you could do!
  1. Turn off lights when you leave a room- If you aren't using as many lights, you aren't contributing to light pollution as much. Plus, you could save some money on your parents energy bill
  2. Write a letter (or email) to a politician- You can convince them that they should install the new style of lighting on streets.

Air Pollution Next post in series Samuel Desai Many environmental activists, unlike me, like to say that pollution is an important issue. I prefer to categorize them into three different topics. Air Pollution, Water Pollution, Noise Pollution, and Light Pollution. The other types of pollution are for another week but don't worry, you will hear about them soon. You may believe that Carbon Dioxide (CO2) it the only pollutant, but it isn't. There are others. One type is methane gas, emitted by livestock and swamps. Another CFC's or chlorofluorocarbons which were used in refrigerators, hairspray, and many other things. But they were banned internationally in 2010 because of its deteriorating effect on the ozone layer. Personally, I think that the pollutant which harms us the most is sulfur dioxide. MODEL X!!!!

Recently, the Tesla model X came out, and by recently, I mean yesterday! Elon Musk said this stuff on  twitter . With a whopping price of 130,000 and more it is very costly, but, the  car is great. The Tesla model X is a family friendly,  and and safe car. It seats 7, with 2 fold-able seats in the third row. The signature series, includes a 90 kWh battery pack, autopilot and self driving functions, and third  row seats. for 10,000 more dollars, ludicrous mode will be added to the X, making it go from 0-60 in  3.2   seconds!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, for 1,000 more dollars, there is the subzero weather package, including heated steering wheel, seat heaters, heated washer fluid, and wiper defrosters. Also, for 750 more dollars, the car will be able to heave 5000 lbs. The falcon wing doors that the X has have sensors to keep them from slamming into walls, so it will stop at a certain point. Weekly endangered species report

On No! Bees Are Endangered Because of Habitat Alteration ! By: Kaden Chien The IUCN has recently discovered a new Species of Bees called Bombus Fraternus. The Bombus Fraternus is a North American bee that is Endangered because of Habitat Alteration. This may be due to human activity such as Cutting down Trees or pollution. This species may go extinct in 80-90 years if this activity keeps up. Efforts to help with this species is going up. But what is strange is that where there are larger efforts, the population in those states are decreasing more than other states!
